Visa Processing Time Lookup
Approximate processing times for visas from Pakistan — standard, priority, and super priority options where available.
Processing times are estimates and vary based on application volume and completeness. Submit well ahead of travel.
How Processing Times Work
Processing time typically starts from the day your biometrics are submitted, not the day you pay the fee. Some embassies use "working days" (Mon–Fri), others use "calendar days."
When to Apply
Rule of thumb: submit your application at least 2x the standard processing time before your travel date. This buffers for unexpected delays, Request For Information (RFI) correspondence, or additional document requests.
- Short-stay / tourist visa: apply 4–8 weeks before travel
- Student visa: apply 3+ months before course starts
- Work visa: apply 2–6 months ahead
- Family / settlement: apply 6+ months before intended move
Why Processing Times Vary
Factors that extend processing beyond standard times:
- Seasonal spikes — summer applications take longer across all countries
- Supporting document issues — if the officer requests more info (RFI), the clock may pause
- Security checks — some backgrounds trigger additional review
- Volume at your specific VAC — Islamabad vs Karachi vs Lahore workloads differ
- Policy changes — new regulations slow processing while staff adapt
Priority Services
UK Priority & Super Priority
Available at UKVCAS centres in Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi. Priority gets you a decision in 5 working days (£500 extra); Super Priority in 1 working day (£1,000). Not always available for all categories.
US Expedite Request
The US doesn't offer paid priority processing. You can request an expedited interview appointment if you have a documented emergency (medical, urgent business, close family bereavement). Not guaranteed.
Schengen Fast-Track
Some Schengen countries offer VIP or fast-track services through VFS Global for an extra fee — this expedites appointment booking and document review, but not the embassy's actual decision time.
What Delays an Application
- Missing documents at submission (requires RFI, clock pauses)
- Blurred document scans in online application
- Translation issues on Urdu documents
- Name mismatches between passport, CNIC, and other IDs
- Incomplete travel itinerary or missing hotel bookings
- Previous visa refusals not disclosed
