How to Get Better Fares from Pakistan
Book 2–3 Months Ahead for Long-Haul
Fares to Europe, North America, and Australia are typically cheapest when booked 8–12 weeks out. Last-minute bookings (within 2 weeks) can cost 50% more. For Gulf and Southeast Asia, the window is tighter — 4–8 weeks ahead.
Fly Mid-Week
Tuesday and Wednesday departures are consistently cheaper than Friday–Sunday. For returns, mid-week is also better. Return on a Tuesday rather than Monday to save noticeably.
Use Multi-City or Open-Jaw
Flying into one European city and out of another can be cheaper than return to the same city — plus you see more. Skyscanner "Everywhere" search is useful for this.
Consider Gulf Hubs
Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha are major hubs with competitive fares to Europe and the Americas. Pakistani travellers often save by taking a cheap Gulf-sector flight (Emirates, Etihad, Qatar, Saudia) and booking separately.
Peak Season Awareness
Fares spike for:
- May–August: school holidays, European summer
- Hajj season (May–June): Jeddah/Madinah fares double
- December: Christmas, winter holidays, Umrah peak
- Eid holidays: inflated Pakistan ↔ Gulf fares for 1–2 weeks
Direct vs Connecting Flights
Pakistan has limited direct long-haul connectivity. Most trips to Europe/North America require a connection in the Gulf. Common connecting hubs:
- Dubai (DXB): Emirates, flydubai — most frequent connections globally
- Doha (DOH): Qatar Airways — excellent Europe/USA network
- Abu Dhabi (AUH): Etihad Airways — US pre-clearance for Americans
- Istanbul (IST): Turkish Airlines — vast network, often cheaper
- Riyadh/Jeddah (RUH/JED): Saudia — strong Africa/Americas
Pakistani Airlines on International Routes
- PIA (Pakistan International Airlines): Gulf, UK (Manchester, Birmingham), Toronto, select other long-haul
- Airblue: Gulf and Saudi Arabia
- Serene Air / AirSial / Fly Jinnah: primarily domestic + Gulf
Baggage Allowance Tips
- Gulf carriers to USA/Canada: typically 2 x 23kg checked bags (46kg total)
- Gulf carriers to Europe/UK: often just 1 x 30kg or 2 x 23kg depending on class
- Economy to Saudi/UAE from Pakistan: usually 30kg total
- Low-cost (flydubai, Airblue): 20kg standard, extras cost extra
Always check your specific ticket — allowances vary by fare class even within the same airline.
Booking Platforms Pakistani Travellers Use
- Google Flights: best for comparing airlines quickly
- Skyscanner: flexible dates, nearby airports
- Booking.com / Kayak: package deals with hotels
- Direct airline website: often best for changes/refunds
- Local travel agents: good for Hajj, Umrah, group bookings
